Melt Into Sunday

Each Goldfrapp album seems born out of  its own distinct palette: cinematic tone poems (Felt Mountain), electro-glam rock (Supernature), aerobic-ready ’80s synth pop (Head First). “Drew”, the first track from the forthcoming Tales of Us initially feels of a piece with my favorite album of theirs, Seventh Tree: all pastoral. gauzy neo-folk. However, the blossoming orchestration renders it far less gauzy, and snippets heard from the album’s YouTube trailer suggest a couple interesting directions. The track listing, which consists almost entirely of singular names (“Annabel”, “Thea”, “Clay”) intrigues me most of all. More to be revealed, I guess, on September 10.
