Things Behind The Sun

I’ve been on a Nick Drake kick since reading his producer Joe Boyd’s excellent memoir White Bicycles. We have Boyd to thank for keeping Drake’s albums in print, and the work endures–this 41-year-old song from Pink Moon hasn’t aged a day.

To Find A New Illusion

I can add little more to the hundreds of obituaries that have appeared over the past week, except a) I was genuinely shocked to hear about Lou Reed’s death, despite his age and recent illness and b) The Velvet Underground’s third, self-titled album has helped me through many difficult times since I first heard it nearly twenty years ago. R.I.P., Lou.

You Know I Won’t

My favorite track from Sam Phillips’ latest, Push Any Button. It’s not her best album since Martinis and Bikinis, but it’s certainly her peppiest since then; it sounds pretty lithe and youthful for someone who recorded her first album nearly thirty years ago.

Everybody Needs A Bosom For A Pillow

I heard this old favorite playing in a Bloomingdales last night (not that I shop at Bloomingdales on a regular basis…); ’90s nonsense pop at its finest.

Stay For The Weekend

The third (finally!) single from Pet Shop Boys’ Electric album; their best single in 20 years?

Sign Me Up

Got married in Maine; honeymooned in New Mexico. Pix of the latter to come.

I Love The Passing Of Time

Taking a few weeks off from blogging: big great life changes ahead. I’ll be back in October.

All I Know

From Washed Out’s lovely new album Paracosm: the perfect soundtrack for a fading summer.

Long Lonesome Seed of a Song

Happy Labor Day.
